Botswana’s professional boxer, Patrick Seoko intends to knock out his South African opponent, Morapedi Khotle within three rounds when the two clash on November 20. The fight will mark the fifth professional boxing tournament held in Botswana by Bond Boxing Promotions Company.

Seoko chose not to say much ahead of the fight but declared, “I am ready.” Boxing promoter, Bond Ngubula said they are aiming for nothing, but victory in November.

He said professional boxing is making strides although they still face the same challenges. “We continue with our efforts to develop professional boxing in the country. Our boxers are unemployed and they are looking at professional boxing as their career. We are hopeful that the government will come on board and assist this sport to grow,” he said.

Besides the main event, some local celebrities will curtain raise the event and showcase their boxing skills after having trained with boxers in what is termed white collar boxing. Among some of those are radio personality, Robin Chivase and musician, Kealeboga Leruele of Wizards of the Desert.

The country last hosted a professional boxing tournament in March this year, but several local boxers have some bouts lined up outside the country this year. “Two weeks from now we expect three of our boxers to fight in South Africa. Moses Kapera also has a fight in Malawi on October 31 as we continue to push for the development of this sport in the country,” he said.

Professional boxing has been boosted by the registration of a body under the name Botswana Boxing Organisation (BBO) which will be responsible for the running of professional boxing in the country.

One of the representatives of the organisation, Willoughby Kemoen confirmed they have recently registered the organisation, which will now be the body that sanctions professional boxing bouts.

“Professional boxing is taking shape and this body will help make it grow even bigger,” he said.
