The veteran goalkeeper twisted his knee with the kneecap moving out of position, which resulted in a huge swelling. The Mahalapye-born goalkeeper’s career has been plaqued by long-term injuries, which have affected his progress in the game. His recent injury was thought to be career ending for the former Zebras goalkeeper.

However, Tshelametsi told Mmegi Sport that his injury is not as bad as it looked and expects to be back in training soon.

“My knee cap twisted and it looked pretty bad at the time it happened. It was painful and there was a huge swelling around my knee and that scared me. I thought it was going to be difficult to recover from it, but after a day it felt a lot better and now I can walk without crutches.

“I am on physio right now and all that is left is some swelling around the knee. I think it will be back to normal before end of week. I don’t feel much pain and I will be doing light training in two weeks time, hopefully in a month’s time I will be back playing,” he said.

Tshelametsi said the injury was not on the same knee which was affected by a career threatening knock a few years back. “It could have been another story if it was on this knee that has troubled me in the past. Luckily it’s on a different knee, so I think it will recover quickly. I would like to thank the 911 medical team. They handled this injury very well. They managed to put my kneecap back in position on time and I think it’s because of them that am healing quickly,” he said.

Furthermore, Tshelametsi said he is looking forward to helping his struggling side take off their season after a bad start.
