Ice Queen denied bail in fraud case

Senior Magistrate Ntombizodwa Ncube yesterday denied her bail and she is due for mention on October 20.

Basson, popularly known as Ice Queen in entertainment circles, broke into the limelight with now defunct Gaborone outfit, P-Side in 2000. She was committed to prison on September 22 after consecutive missed court appearances. She had been absent from court from October 17, 2014, missing several appearances.

According to court documents, between August 15 and 17 last year, Basson allegedly approached Cresta Lodge for its services but failed to remunerate them.

Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Philip Mogobye said they have completed their investigations and will this week submit their file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Basson, a former radio personality at Gabz FM, was once arrested in 2011 at London’s Heathrow Airport for allegedly possessing cannabis or marijuana valued at P248,000. She was then remanded at Halloway Female Prison after failing to pay the P160,000 bail imposed.

In court yesterday, Basson sat reading the Bible while waiting for her case to be called. Family members were also in court to give her moral support.
