Prior his performance at Spring Xplosion, the Boss Zonke hit maker sat down with Showbiz and shared ideas on how local rappers could sell gold.

He stated for an artist to sell a large number of units they have to personally play a role on the selling of their albums and not only depend on music stores.

“Take your music out to the people, make album launches everywhere, sell CDs and do it yourself,” he said.

The Nafukwa rapper has previously posted pictures on social networks selling his Family Values CDs at the back of a car in the streets. While he was selling his music in the streets music stores were also selling his music. Some of his songs are also on online music stores.

Locally we have witnessed the likes of Drama Boi selling their music at various malls.

The 28-year-old stated that artists should be involved in the marketing their products through various initiatives.

“You should keep making music and releasing stuff consistently so that people can hear and end up getting used to your stuff and art,” he said.

Prior to the release of his album, which was, certified gold a few weeks ago, the rapper released a number of catchy songs such as Amantombazane and Nafukwa, which won him many fans. He was also featured in a number of songs that gave him a constant appearance in different media platforms.

“Make music that is natural to your audience, tell your story make it more personal and come up with your own sound,” he said.

Ricky Rick is also an actor on DSTV soap Isibaya and he is also a film producer by profession.
