Bokamoso Kono is alleged to have, on Friday October 2, had sexual intercourse with an 11-year old girl without her consent in Lobatse.

Appearing for the state was Inspector Bakanoki Tsayang of Woodhall police. Bakanoki said the investigations were still at an initial stage, therefore asked the court to remand the accused person in custody.

“Investigations into the matter are still at an initial stage and the matter involves an 11-year old minor who is seriously traumatised and needs serious attention.

The accused person and the victim are neighbours and we are afraid the offence may continue if the accused person is granted bail,” Tsayang said.

He added that the accused person is a convict of house breaking and stealing from a house and is currently serving a five-year suspended sentence.

“This has reflected that the accused person is a repeat offender and did not learn a lesson from his previous conviction,” Tsayang said.

When asked to comment the accused person, complained of ‘hunger’ at the police holding cells and asked for bail.

“I am very hungry, I am not fit to say anything before this court, am even shaking, I haven’t eaten since morning.

I have medication that I have to take but I haven’t. I want to wait for the trial outside prison or rather, at the police holding cells than the prison,” Kono said.

In another matter, magistrates Tumelo granted a 34-year-old Kgomokasitwa man bail in a case where he faces a single charge of threat to kill.

The state alleges that on October 3 at Kgomokasitwa football grounds, Gabaitsane Mokgadi, threatened to kill Tshepo Mokgadi.

He is alleged to have said, “I will kill you, I will burn you in that house that you live in”.

The accused was granted bail on condition that he pays a bond of P1,000, produces two sureties one of which must be a family member and reports daily - Monday and Fridays - at Kgomokasitwa police post. Also, he is barred from making contact with the complainant and should also attend court at all times.
