Standard Chartered Bank undertakes Employee Volunteering Month

During this dedicated month, many staff will spend time working on causes that the bank supports such as financial education, eradicating preventable blindness or support for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Other employees choose to volunteer for a cause close to their own heart, from planting trees to mentoring or training youth on health and hygiene.

Commenting on the initiative, Head of Corporate Affairs, Tumie Ramsden said: “We strongly believe that volunteering is a valuable donation of employee ‘time’ to benefit the community for charitable causes. Standard Chartered has undertaken a commendable step to provide all of its employees with three days of paid leave of which they are welcome to select a cause to support and volunteer for any activity of their choice.”

Last year, Standard Chartered Botswana staff donated over 750 employee volunteering days across the country. Standard Chartered Group has an annual community investment target of 0.75% of the previous year’s operating profit and employee volunteering time counts as a non-cash investment, making up 15% of the Bank’s overall commitment.

For this year’s campaign, the Bank is delighted to inform that they will be aligning their employee volunteering efforts to support the global awareness campaign to promote the recently announced United Nations Global Goals. This will be achieved via the Project Everyone Campaign which Standard Chartered is a proud founding partner.

Ramsden explained that as a Bank, they often talk about the importance of being here for good. “This is not just a brand promise. It is an ethos that we try to live by every day. We are proud to support the Global Goals campaign which we saw as an opportunity to drive real change and improve the lives of people across the world” she added.

“We look forward to the opportunity of using our skills in making a unique contribution to the society this year” concluded Ramsden.
