Pitsane Molopo police have been holding the dreadlocked man since January 11, 2021, after he was seen wandering between Sekhutlane and Metlobo villages.

Then, when the police tried to talk to him, he would either laugh or just keep quiet. After trying to locate his whereabouts to no avail, the police then issued a press release pleading with members of the public to help with any information that could help with the identification of his family.

Reached for an interview Botswana Police Service’s (BPS) public relations officer, assistant commissioner Dipheko Motube disclosed to MmegiOnline to have been contacted by the man's sister in South Africa via a phone call explaining herself to be the man’s sibling.

'She has sent us his photos as a young man and they have his resemblance. She explained to have long last seen her brother when he stayed in Tonota decades ago and has been missing for years. I have requested her to come to Botswana to meet Pitsane Molopo police so that we could discuss the matter further. However, the mentally challenged man remains in Pitsane Molopo police custody,” Motube said.
