Rowdy neighbour wields knife at Police

The incident happened in Gaborone after police rersponded to a neighbour’s complaints about noise at the young man’s house.

The man, Kedibonye Tshoganetso, was discharged from Princess Marina Hospital on Friday after a week long stay at the hospital.

Urban police station commander, Charles Mbengwa confirmed the incident.

Mbengwa told The Monitor that investigations into the matter are underway.

“We only have one side and that is from the police officers at the scene.  We do not have the other side of the story from the victim as he has been hospitalised until today (Friday),” said Mbengwa.  “But what we do know is that the police received a report of nuisance at around 2am Sunday night.

The officers attended to the scene. Although it is a bit sketchy at the moment as I said, we are still investigating, but the man was apparently not with the officers when they came to settle the matter.”

“The man allegedly came out of the house charging at an officer with a knife,” said the station commander.

“Because the man has just been released we have given him time to rest then we can interview him.  We are treating this with the utmost immediacy,” he said.

The Monitor visited the man at his hospital bed who narrated his end of the story. He said that it was late at night when they were at home when the police came barging in.

He said when the police arrived he was  inside the house.

“I could overhear them having an argument with some of the guys, when I got out that is when the officer shot at me, and hit me in the chest area,” he said.

“I do not remember how many officers were there and I do not know why they shot at me,” Tshoganetso explained.

Meanwhile, still at Urban police station, two children lost their lives after a house they were sleeping in caught fire.

According to the police, on October 1 at around 01.12am they received a report from a neighbour about the fire.

“When the police arrived at the scene one of the children had already died whilst the police managed to rescue the other three,” Mbengwa said.

The children aged 12, six, three and one were alone in the house when it caught fire. The one-year old however, later died at the hospital.

Mbengwa appealed to members of the public to take better care of their children, especially nowadays when there is an increased usage of candles, which cause fires if not handled well.
