Both teams started the game at a high pace with Rollers shaving the post in the 6th minute.

Two minutes later, Rollers were denied by the post again as Segolame Boy failed to convert Joel Mogorosi’s pass. GU was put under pressure with Boy shooting wide moments later.

Rollers hit the posts for the third time in a space of 20 minutes through Mogogi’s breakthrough on the right side.

On the half-hour mark, both teams were still deadlocked with GU playing a physical game and committing a lot of fouls in the process. Rollers, on the other hand, could not utilise set pieces meaning it remained goalless at halftime.

From the break, GU came back with guns blazing with Ntesang Simanyana dictating the flow in midfield.

GU continued to show their hunger for goals, but Appiah Bismark blew the ball wide. GU was on the ascendancy in the second stanza with Alphonse Modisaotsile on top of his game.

Wing back, Katlego Koobake pushed forward to try and bring in dangerous crosses into the box. Thato Ogopotse almost found the net from outside the box, but Rollers goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe saved. Both teams squandered a lot of opportunities in a desperate bid to secure all three points. The addition of Sekhana Koko late in the game brought back life into Rollers’ attack.

However, the breakthrough proved elusive and spoils were shared. The draw saw Rollers remain on top with 21 points while GU is sixth with 15 points.

GU coach, Rahman Gumbo said the draw was a fair result.

“Rollers came here with a lot of confidence from their goal feast last week, but we managed to hold them,” he said.

He said they knew Rollers were going to attack looking at the quality in their squad. Gumbo’s counterpart, Mark Harrison said they should have sealed the game in the first half when they hit the posts three times.

“When chances come by, you have to take them because sometimes they come back to haunt you. It was a typical derby game and it was blood and thunder,” he said. Harrison also agreed that a draw was a fair result.
