Sparks Fail To Fly At Rollers Meeting

Although there were instances of finger pointing, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego managed to calm the situation and urged members to stick to the agenda.

One of the members accused some committee members of using them for their personal benefits. He specifically questioned the inclusion of David Spencer Mmui into the interim committee, while he was accused of lending himself some money during his tenure as the chairperson of the Botswana Premier League (BPL).

“Right now you are bringing him here, but we have never been given a report regarding his issue with the Premier League. We are waiting for him to explain to us how he is going to help Rollers with the money he allegedly took at the Premier League. If he has paid the money back; how did he do that,” said one member.

Another member asked Sebego to seek explanation from the committee members as to what benefits they gain from Rollers.

“Ke kopa gore o re boletse borre ba ba mo komiting ka ke bone ba re beileng ha ka dikgang tsa bone. Naare golo mo Rollers ka re itse football ya Botswana e sena madi, ga o tsena mo go yone o itse gore wa go senyegelwa, go jewa eng mo e reng re kopa batho gore ba eme ha thoko re leke yo mongwe a ise society pele a bo e nna ntwa,” said the other member.

Somerset Gobuiwang was also not spared from some accusations as one member blamed him for bringing an investor (Jagdish Shah) and then turning against him.

However, Sebego expressed concern over how some members conducted themselves when given the opportunity to speak.

“You see if you cannot conduct yourself well in the way you speak in this kind of meeting, then it means you are not prepared,” he said.

He told the members who had packed Marang JSS Hall to stay calm and not dwell on unnecessary issues.

“Right now you are asking about Mmui and it comes to a point where I have to ask him to answer for himself.

And that will lead to a dialogue where we will be throwing punches at each other,” he said.

One of the founding members of the club, Allen Kempton also expressed disappointment at the way some Rollers members were conducting themselves.

He said the likes of Gobuiwang contributed a lot to the club and deserves to be treated with respect.

The interim committee set January 30, 2016 as the proposed date for the next AGM where their term will lapse.  The committee will at the same meeting update the general membership on the mandate they had been given up to then.
