Kgatleng East teams gear for Independence tourney

Mogale Stone Breakers (Malolwane), Legends FC (Sikwane), Diamond Diggers FC (Mathubudukwane) and Mabalane FC will clash in this year’s tournament. The four teams qualified for the main tournament after winning mini-tournaments in the various villages.  Speaking to Mmegi Sport on Friday, the event’s media relations officer, Anthony Rasetshwane said only players from the region play in the tournament and the aim is to unite the youth and promote unity.

The tournament also aims to raise funds for Madikwe Junior Secondary School (JSS) prize giving ceremony in 2016. “Madikwe JSS is the only secondary school in the region, so we found no better way of giving back to the community other than offering a helping hand in raising funds for the prize giving ceremony,” he said.

Last year’s tournament was won by Moremogolo FC while Mabalane FC were runner-ups. Mabalane United are the only survivors from last year’s tournament as the other teams failed to qualify for the tournament in two consecutive years. The winners will walk away with P2,500 while runners-up will pocket P1,500. Tickets are selling at P15 for adults and P5 for children.

Meanwhile, Black Peril will face Potch United in a Tlokweng Independence Cup final to be played tomorrow. The two teams advanced to the finals after beating Matlala Cosmos and Monga United respectively, 5-4 on penalty shootouts.
