BEMS Emergency Services Launches

This was confirmed proudly by the BEMS founder Dr  Tiro Mampane, who added that in some provinces in South Africa there is not even one single Bachelor’S Degree qualified Paramedic, while  the situation is worse in other SADC countries. He said this scenario affords his experts in the field expanded scope of practice.

Mampane also announced that from their Research Centre of Excellence they have developed an App called “My Care” which will be running on any smart phone application to augment their offerings. In addition, they also have crash impact notification platform through the tracking device which immediately sends a message to BEMS call centre for the dispatch team to respond timely.

On their emergency helicopter service that was also paraded on the night, Mampane said the rotor wing aircraft brings added convenience, as it is able to service hard-to-reach areas and shorten response times.

Mampane added that they have professionals such as paramedics, trauma nurses, critical care nurses and doctors who enable them to competently offer a wide range of extended services like “Call-a-doctor”.

BEMS also announced their various healthcare plans that include Be-spoke Pre-Hospital Healthcare plan, Be-spoke Pre-Hospital Student Healthcare plan, Be-spoke Pre-Hospital Mobile Health Net and Remote Site Clinic.

Mampane said the new company is coming in to fill the void after realising that there continued to be increase in trauma cases from road traffic accidents, occupational injuries, self-inflicted injuries and burns.

He observed that road traffic accidents are among the top 10 leading causes of deaths in Botswana according to the  World Health Organisation (WHO) studies of 2014.

Another study by MVA revealed that 64% of all crashes occurred in and around Gaborone.

Mampane said they have also observed that there continued to be shortage of Health Care professionals, especially paramedics, doctors and critical care nurses.
