Both teams came into the match having suffered defeats in their previous encounters.

Police XI were given their first defeat by Gaborone United, while Gunners lost to defending champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs. Gunners started the game on a high note with impressive touches and put their opponents on the back foot.

With only five minutes into game, Police XI had already conceded two corners, but Gunners failed to capitalise on them.

In the 10th minute, attacker Kelelo Kgosimore missed a chance to put Gunners in the lead as his shot went wide.

Moments later, Kgosimore found himself unmarked at the far post but his shot was well saved by Police XI goalkeeper, Bokamoso Moeba. Gunners’ skipper, Monageng Thaele tried a shot from outside the box towards the end of the first half but his shot went over the bar.

Five minutes into the second half, Tapiwa Gadibolae put Police XI ahead. He received a good ball from Letlhogonolo Senwelo, inside the penalty area and made no mistake.

Three minutes later, Mogomotsi Mokoka missed a chance to level the matters as his header went over the bar. Gunners went gun blazing in search of an equaliser, but their efforts bore no fruit.

Substitute Tshegofatso Chimuku had an immediate impact after coming on. He made a good run down the left flank and provided a low cross to Mokoka whose shot Moeba saved.

Gunners caretaker coach, Oupa Kowa said they performed well in the second half compared to the first one.

“We have to keep on working on finishing,” he said.

Police XI assistant coach, Maitumelo Letlamoreng said he was happy to have won the game as it was his team’s intention to collect maximum points in each game.

“I told my boys to forget about the GU loss and focus on today’s game,” he said.
