When romance turns bloody

In The Perfect Guy ladies man, Michael Ealy, best known for his role in Think Like A Man, plays the leading role and transforms into a fearless lovesick monster, following a painful break-up from successful lobbyist, Leah Vaughn.

Leah Vaughn jumps into a passionate relationship with the charming Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy). Her ex-boyfriend Dave (Morris Chestnut) resurfaces in her life, making her life complicated.

  Action

The Perfect Guy depicts the rocky love commitments that are becoming the norm nowadays very well. Leah and Dave relationship ends because of disagreements relating to starting a family. After the break-up, Leah decides to date Carter.

This movie brings the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ to life. It is also a lesson to women not to jump into a new relationship shortly after a break-up or try to heal from a previous relationship by starting a new one. After dating Carter for a while, Leah decides to consider rekindling the flame with her ex-lover Dave. Carter doesn’t take this well, and this brings out the psycho in him. He starts sending threatening message to Leah.  The distraught Carter sends message such as “If I can’t have you no one will” to Leah, which sends chills down her spine.

The Perfect Guy in a way shows the dangers of getting involved in love triangles. Carter’s endless pursuit of Leah adds an interesting twist to the film. For instance, the audience was left in stitches when Carter broke into Leah’s house while she was at work, and searched for anything that she has touched.

He ends up kissing her lipstick from a wine glass she drank from the previous night.

The Perfect Guy is also very explosive. Former lovers try to kill each other, and exhibit weird behaviour all in the name of love. The devious vengeful plans by Carter are shocking. One of the creepiest scenes was when Carter loosened the bolts on Dave’s car front wheels, exposing him to the danger of being involved in a grisly accident.

The true delight of this thriller was the courage and tenacity shown by Leah to stand up for herself against the abusive Carter.

This gives the audience food for thought with regard to decisions they make based on love.
