Battle for boxing championships berth heats-up

 

The tournament is the last chance for boxers to qualify for the year ending National Championships.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, one of the organisers, Kenny Maragana said over 60 boxers from 13 clubs countrywide would battle it out for a spot in the National Championships.

“The draw will be conducted on the day, but we expect exciting bouts as some of the boxers who are not part of the national team will be eager to impress national team selectors,” he said.

Former Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medalist, Lentswe Zwinila, the Best of the Best champion and 2012 Africa Open bronze medalist, Keoagile Rantutu, middle weight national champion and 2012 silver medalist, Zibane Chikanda, three-time national champion Alphious Farmer, 2013 national champion and best of the best silver medalist, Ookeditse Bobeilwe, are some of the big names expected on Saturday.

Exciting bouts are expected in the 69kg section where Rantutu, Zwinila and Bobeilwe will battle it out. Boxers who recently participated in the All Africa Games are in contention as well.

Africa Youth Games champion, Mohammed Otukile and Kutlwano Ogaketse who are fresh from the Commonwealth Youth Games will also compete in the tournament.
