Back to the drawing board for Club Licensing

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) had adopted a blueprint from the continental body CAF to apply the requirements to local clubs. However, some clubs have been struggling to meet the Club Licensing requirements, most struggling with finances to do proper financial audits and statements.
The BFA leadership had argued, compliance with Club Licensing was the only remedy to local football’s woes.
Most clubs have struggled to regularly pay stuff, and BFA had said CIub Licensing will ensure local teams spend within their means.
Some clubs lost points due to non-compliance. Sebego’s Notwane was one of the sides that felt the early wrath of failing to comply.
“I hope that the local administrators will appreciate the need to apply rules with a dose of reality and reasonableness. The development of football takes patience. One step at a time. The wholesale importation of rules concerning the level of domestic reality is counterproductive and anti-fair play. The recent feedback from CAF is sobering and very much welcome,” Sebego said.
BFA CEO, Goabaone Taylor said the association was hard at work to ensure the requirements are aligned to those of CAF.
“We are still working with all stakeholders to ensure we align with the requirements of CAF,” she said.
