Zebras legends face ex-Kenya stars

The match takes place in Maun as part of the build up to next year’s 50th Independence Day celebrations.
The country’s leading top scorer, Diphetogo ‘Dipsy’ Selolwane is behind the event as the countdown to the next year’s Independence Day celebrations begin.
Mompati ‘Apache’ Thuma, Nelson ‘Viola’ Gabolwelwe, Ernest Amos, Masego Nchingane, Tshepiso ‘Sox’ Molwantwa, Mpho Mabogo and Phadza Butale among others, will grace the match. Dipsy’s former captain at Santos, Musa Otieno, will lead the Kenyan side.
“For me personally, I have never played in Maun and I have recently noticed that the people around there love football. This is why we decided to take the first commemoration there,” Selolwane said. The former players will hold a coaching clinic where they will drill young players in the region. “People should know where we are. This is a platform to show people where we are, as they haven’t seen some of us since our playing days and is also part of our way of giving back to the community. The football match between the local and Kenyan legends will come after a curtain raiser featuring Maun legends select side and a local politicians team led by Kgosi Tawana.”
Dipsy said the other purpose of the game is to use the power of sport and song to galvanise Batswana into action regarding the country’s 50th independence celebrations next year. “Kenya and Botswana have good relations in sports, arts, education, business, culture and tourism hence why we invited the Kenyan team,” he said. Selolwane will also hold coaching clinics in Tsabong, Gantsi, Serowe, Selibe-Phikwe Jwaneng and Lobatse until August next year. Other festivities include boat cruises, camel rides, and scenic flights over the Okavango Delta and game drives.
