MRI Botswana Polyclinic opens in Kazungula, Kasane

Owned and run by MRI Botswana, the polyclinic was officially opened by the Chobe Member of Parliament (MP), Machana Ronald Shamukuni.

The polyclinic, running under the newly established brand name PRIME HEALTH, has been developed to serve Kazungala, Kasane and surrounding communities with integrated healthcare services.

The services ranging from a GP Practice (Prime Health Medical); a Pharmacy (Prime Health) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), are offered by a team of qualified paramedics supported by EMS-trained doctors.  The GP Practice is going to be supported by routine scanning facilities. A cross-section of the community and private sector leadership were invited to the opening and launching of the clinic.

Among those who graced the occasion were officials from Botswana Tourism Organisation and MRI Botswana board members.

“We are indeed delighted that drawing from their over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry and especially in the EMS industry, MRI continues to provide the necessary safety net that we all need for our good health...especially when seconds count.

From January to this far, MRI has evacuated 29 patients of various medical emergencies from Kasane alone, “said the MRI Board chair Mr Abel Bogatsu in his welcome speech.

In his remarks MP Shamukuni said: “MRI deserves to be applauded for setting up this polyclinic, a move that demonstrates their resolve to continuously make its private sector contribution towards both the “Roll Back Malaria” initiative, launched in 2001 and the 2010 Malaria Strategic Plan (MSP), which calls for a malaria free Botswana by 2015.”

During the launch ceremony, the community heard about the wide variety of services offered at clinic which would be of great service to both themselves and their visitors.

Annually, Kasane attracts a sizeable number of tourists, making it one of Botswana’s tourism hubs.

The MRI polyclinic is expected to compliment government health facilities in Kasane and the surrounding areas.
