Makufa, who finished fifth last season, came into the match as underdogs as they faced a Rollers side that went unbeaten last season.

A first half strike from Masego Leganana gave Makufa the narrow victory.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport, Makufa coach, Ifa Makulwane said whenever they lose against Rollers, it is always with small margins. “Games like this are a motivation on their own. Rollers always beat us with small margins. I am happy that we were able to beat them though they were all over us on the day,” he said.

He also said he is already noticing some improvements in his team’s play compared to last season. “Last season we had issues from our right side, that’s where we were leaking, but from the game I can say we have improved,” Makulwane said.

He further said going into the next fixture, he would like to see his team moving the ball quickly especially in the final third.

Rollers’ coach, Gaolethoo ‘Ronaldo’ Nkutlwisang said every team wants to beat the defending champions.

“On the day we did not create many chances and we did not convert the few we had,” she said.

“We are not putting any pressure on the players. I just have to talk to them and prepare them for the next game. We missed some of our key players but I cannot say that was the reason for the loss,” Nkutlwisang said.

In other games, seasoned campaigners Double Action hammered Kanye Swallows 5-0 while Meat Girls welcomed newly promoted Gaborone United to the Super League with a 4-1 beating. UB Kicks lost 2-0 to Prisons while South East Girls United and Big Sisters played to a goalless draw.

The game between Untouchable and FC Legends was not played, due to the on going national Under-17 trials. Both teams have contributed majority of players to the camp. The opening round saw 13 goals scored.
