Batshu meets CITF board of trustees

The chairman of the board, Philemon Ramatsui, pointed out some issues that required action by the ministry because they had negative impact on service delivery.

Some of the issues included the need to acquire more facilities in order to expand training, to carry out a tracer study to establish the whereabouts of the CITF trainees and to expedite the merger of CITF and Madirelo Training and Testing Centre (MTTC).

Batshu commended the board for the job well done in executing the mandate of CITF. He applauded the board for its commitment and dedication to work, which resulted in the production of quality trainees by the CITF centres as evidenced by the high rate of their absorption by the industry. He urged the board to intensify the identification of opportunities for skills development in the proposed special economic zones.

The minister updated the board about government’s priorities on job creation, poverty eradication, education, health and the fight against corruption. He pointed out that while CITF contributed to the attainment of these priorities, he expected it to do more.

Batshu concurred with the CITF board on the need to expand training for unskilled and semi-skilled Batswana in the construction industry, particularly in view of the high number of applications for work and residence permits for foreign skilled personnel in the industry.

He informed the board that the ministry drafted a shareholder compact, an agreement to be entered into by the ministry and the CITF to facilitate the monitoring of the fund’s performance by the ministry. The CITF board will have to make an input into the draft before the two sign it.
