Team Francistown’s Chef de mission, Thabo Mokoti said they have submitted the team list to the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC).

“The selection of players across all the sporting codes is complete and we recently submitted the list to the BNSC,” Mokoti told Mmegi Sport.

The competition will see 16 districts compete in 13 disciplines being athletics, athletics for visually impaired, basketball, badminton, football, karate, netball, softball, volleyball, tennis, swimming and chess.

Mokoti said the city will be represented in all codes and training camps have commenced.

“Through these teams, our intention is to grow and produce future stars,” he said.

He pleaded for support from the business community as they face financial challenges. He said the business communtiy here is not supportive.

“For a while we have been visiting companies submitting proposals requesting for funding, but to date no one has shown interest.”

Mokoti said they have to find ways of raising funds; with a dinner and other events mooted.

The local organising committee led by the District Commissioner’s office, through Boyce Mangole said different preparatory committees have been selected.

He said the committees have been given tasks to involve all stakeholders towards the success of the games’ preparations and see how they can also benefit.  “The catering committee will make sure that they involve locals vendors and small businesses on how they can reap from the games,” Mangole said.
