Accused Person Threatens To Kill Witness

Omphemetse Moilwa, a state witness in a  case in which her boyfriend  Mosimanegape Londaba is an accused person, told the court that she the day she left court on August 16, 2014, Londaba assaulted her for three  consecutive days.

She said in addition to the assults, Londaba uttered words that threatened her life. “He said, ‘Monday won’t pass while you are still alive, I want to see your funeral before I receive my sentence’,” she added.

She said she feared for her life as the way he assaulted her, she was in no doubt that he could kill her.

Another state witness George Kepu  testified that the couple were always fighting and the accused had the potential to kill the complainant because he was arrogant and kept dangerous weapons in his house. Magistrate Mokgatle ruled that Londaba has a case to answer, as the complainant has testified that she feared for her life and relocated from Bodumatau. He said the accused has channelled his energy in the assaulting part during cross examinations and ignored the offence he has been brought for, which is threat to kill. He did not make any effort to dispute that he uttered life threatening words to the complainant and court ruled that he has a case to answer.

Still in court, Johannes Bok of Kutuku settlement pleaded not guilty to assaulting the mother of his six children. According to the charge sheet, on October 12, 2014, the accused assaulted his cohabiting partner, Kebonamang Gabontlole.

It is alledged that on that  day when Gabontlole returned from the kraal with milk, the accused spilled it and tried to pour boiling water on her before he attempted to beat her with a burning log. Bok then choked her until she became unconscious and struggled to breath.

However, the accused denied ever choking her but admitted that he slapped her and attempted to pour boiling water on her. He said she only cried but  was not  unconscious. Though he mentioned that the complainant wished to withdraw the case and reconcile with him, the prosecution said they were not aware of any such intention.

A plea of not guilty was entered and trial will commence on November 23, 2015.
