First Job Summit Next Month

The Human Resources Development Council (HRDC), head of communications and marketing, Faith Tuelo said her organisation is in the process of ensuring that strategies that would help qualified human resources are put in place.

“We are working with Botswana Qualification Authority to ensure that the learning institutions are producing quality human resources (education) that will help in providing not just jobs but quality jobs,” she said during a media briefing recently.

She also said that the HRDC would make sure that the ideas and solutions discussed at the summit are put in place.

Tuelo said it is the duty of the council to advise government on the development of human resources.

One of the key partners of the summit, Mpho Pheko said that the outcome of the gathering would help with the job situation in Botswana. 

She added that the summit would be a platform for all the stakeholders (job seekers and policy makers) to communicate and come up with solutions for job creation.

“This is a platform to communicate to the job seekers out there to show that the nation is not resting on its laurels, but is trying to do something to help them.

“To the policy makers, this is not a finger pointing platform where we will be blaming them for this situation, but (it is) a platform that will allow for critical ideas not necessarily criticising what has been done,” said Pheko.

She also said that they want an opportunity to look at their policies in trying to accommodate the micro and medium enterprises. 

Also the entrepreneurs and innovators are encouraged to take the ideas discussed to help address the lack of job opportunities. 

One of the organiser of the Botswana Jobs Summit, Lawrence Ookeditse said that upon realisation that there was no platform for all the stakeholders of job creation they came up with the idea to host such an event.

Ookeditse said the summit is the platform where the stakeholders could gather and share practical solutions to create more job opportunities.
