GU End Police XI�s Winning Streak

Police XI came into the match sitting at the top of the log, with one draw and five wins while GU were perched on sixth position with eight points and fresh from a midweek victory against Miscellaneous.
GU started the game in a strong form, giving Police XI’s defence a tough time. They had two chances to score in the first 10 minutes, with Benson Shilongo’s header wide off the post in the fourth minute and Alphonse Modisaotsile’s long-range effort going over the bar in the 7th minute.
The ‘Jungle Kings’ seemed to be struggling with the attacking trio of; Hendrick Moyo, Kgaswane and Ntesang Simanyana, whenever they entered the last third.
Moyo missed a chance to take the lead after he received a good pass from Simanyana, but his shot went wild. Police had minimum chances as they did not attack their opponents in earnest, but rather sat back. GU was awarded a free kick in front of the box, after Moyo was pulled down.
Kgololo Kgogobi’s free kick hit the wall and Osego Gaotewe’s follow up shot went wide of the post in the 41st minute.
Two minutes into the second half, GU produced a quick counter attack with Simanyana and Moyo combining well with good passes. They found Kgogobi in the far post with a good through ball, but he missed a chance to take the lead by a whisker.
GU was awarded a free kick in the front of the box in the 52nd minute and Kgaswane curled the ball into the back of the net to give GU the lead.
Police missed a chance to level matters mid-way through the second half when substitute Senatla Onkgolotse was quick to react to Tapiwa Gadibolae’s cross, but his shot did not trouble the goalkeeper.
GU’s new striker, Bismark Appiah failed to net his first goal in GU colours after his rush and bluff shot went over the bar. GU coach, Rahman Gumbo said his team is starting to find its feet as they recorded their second consecutive win.
“I was a bit surprised by Police’s approach. They all sat behind; that was unusual (as) they came here as log leaders,” he said.
Police XI coach, Maitumelo ‘Junior’ Letlamoreng felt that most of his players were not in the game as they were always second on the ball.
“There was no pressure in coming into the game as log leaders and we know that we are a team to beat,” he said.
