New kwasa kwasa group born in Gantsi

The 15-man band called Oblogatto was formed this year and the whole idea behind was to unearth youth talent and get them out of the streets. The producers of the group are Tony Sebabi and Sergeant Lefoko.

According to the group lead singer, Obusitswe Madumane, though Oblogatto has not released an album yet, their songs will be sung mostly in Sekgalagadi and Sesarwa, the whole idea being to promote their culture. ”We want people to know more about their culture as you maybe aware that everyone is concerned about our declining culture,” Madumane stated.

He also said Oblogatto has collaborated with one of Namibia’s  renowned artists called Four-by-Four and have co-produced a single titled Ba Ja Mmogo which is yet to be recorded in Namibia before the end of the year.

“We are preparing people for the album which will be out next year.

“The title of the single means we are working with our counterparts elsewhere,” he said.

Furthermore, Madumane said in their upcoming album they have produced songs which are motivational.

“The songs talk about our country and that its economy should grow and also about real life situations,” he said.

The group has performed at the President’s Day competitions and even went as far as the Nationals in Gaborone and managed to get position four.

They have also shared the stage with the likes of Jeff Matheatau and Slizer.

Their main challenge is lack of funds.

However Madumane said they have regular shows in Gantsi District to raise funds so as to be able to record their album.

“Not only that, but we also have a problem with late payments from the government if they had engaged us to perform at their events. Venues here are also expensive which makes us upcoming artists not to grow,” he lamented.
