The group comprises ten members including photographers Joe Misika, Karabo Moilwa, Mabedi Letsholo, Brains Monekwe, Oteng Lekgowe, Kevin Groth, Isaac Lesole, and Yusha Kenaope. Mmegi’s intrepid photojournalist Thalefang Charles, who broke the story about Sekoti will also be part of the trip.

Sekoti is a young lion from the famous Savuti Marsh pride that shot to fame from Mmegi tales about its life story. The trip is expected to last five days and will  start in Kasane on May 24, 2021, with activation by the new Kazungula Bridge.

One of the organisers, Moilwa of Chobe Collective said the initiative is meant to raise awareness about wildlife photography in Botswana.

“We chose to embark on this trip, so as to as raise awareness about wildlife photography in Botswana, to show its importance in conveying conservation and nature stories to the masses”.

He further said, “We hope to tell a story about our beautiful Botswana, straight out of the wilderness. Furthermore, we hope Batswana will take pride in nature.” According to Moilwa, this is also an endeavor to promote Botswana local and internationally through the eyes of Batswana. The lensmen intend to use the initiative to unearth more talented nature photographers in Botswana.

The photographers came together and contributed money from their own pockets to finance the trip.

“At the moment, this trip has been a collective effort of a few local wildlife photographers. We saw it fit to raise funds and make this trip possible,” Moilwa said.

“Leon Safaris in Kasane, have been kind enough to assist in hosting us throughout the trip”, he added. Moilwa also pleaded: “We are open to sponsors and support, this will greatly help us achieve our goals and grow the wildlife photography landscape in Botswana.”
