Botswana wins first medal at African States bowling tourney

Team Botswana finished second behind South Africa with six points and eight shots difference. South Africa accumulated 10 points and 41 shots difference, while Zimbabwe got position three with six points and minus three shots difference.

In the final round of ladies pairs and triples, Botswana beat Kenya by 15 to 14 shots. Zambia beat Zimbabwe by 25 to 15 shots, while South Africa beat Namibia by 21 to 14 shots.

The host, Zambia, secured gold medal in ladies pairs with 10 points plus 51 shots difference. South Africa scooped silver medal with eight points plus 30 shots difference while Kenya walked away with bronze medal.

In the men’s singles, Remmy Kebapetse lost to a Zambian by 9 shots to 21 shots. With one round to go, Botswana is currently joint third position with Kenya after accumulating four points, while South Africa and Zambia are holding position one and two respectively.

In the 6th round, Kebapetse won against Malawi by 21 shots to 9 shots.

Botswana Bowling Association public relations officer, John Gaborutwe said Botswana has a fair chance to win against Malawi and Namibia to secure a medal.

He also said in the fours discipline, Botswana has no chance to secure a medal after failing to win any game so far in the tournament.

Fours team, Boitumelo Mosinyi, Diana Senna, Kabo Gaboutloeloe and Khumo Kebalatetse lost their game against Zambia by 11 to 17 shots.

Kebapetse still stands a chance to win bronze medal. He is third with six points. Gaborutwe said Kebapetse have a chance to win against Namibia in the final round to secure a medal.

The tournament moves to the ladies singles and fours as well as men’s pairs and triples on Wednesday. The competition ends on September 19, 2015.
