Stakeholder participation is key � Letsholathebe

Speaking at the school’s 20th anniversary and prize-giving ceremony, Letsholathebe said students who do well academically are a result of their parents’ involvement in their education.

She said it is in recognition of participation by parents in their children’s education, that they built a monument depicting the pivotal role they play in supporting them.  She implored parents to ask themselves what role they played in their children’s education.

Letsholathebe said, this year the school chose the theme, ‘Steps Towards Vision 2016, Striving Towards Academic Excellence’ to demonstrate realisation of the pillar of an educated and informed nation.

She said MSSS, which is the delight of the people of the North East District (NED) has performed admirably in the 2014 Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations, a feat that saw them among the Top 10 performing schools in the country.  “Despite challenges we encounter as a school, I am pleased to inform you that our school did well in the 2014 BGCSE exams.  We strive to maintain the Top 10 spot in future and this calls for support if we are to realise our dream,” she said.

Letsholathebe said her school is disadvantaged, especially when seeking others to adopt it, simply because it is in a rural area.

 She said with few businesses in the area, it is difficult to find an adopter as the local businesses merely survive. She was, however, quick to appreciate efforts made by one of their sponsors, Eric Tebogo who has pledged to sponsor the school for the next five years.

Letsholathebe was excited with Tebogo’s efforts, who this year popped out P15,000 towards the prize-giving ceremony.  In appreciating the benevolent gesture, the school named its library after him.

Alumnus, Tebogo Mabutho said collaboration between stakeholders is important to produce a fit and responsible person.  He urged students to work hard to achieve their goals. “Education is important, study to learn. What you learn today is what you will be tomorrow,” he said.
