Machaneng police station commander, Superintendent Peggy Vakalisa confirmed the incident.

“On Monday morning we received a report that a certain man was found hanging from a tree a few kilometers from the village. Members of the police rushed there and took the man to Machaneng primary hospital, where he was certified dead by medical doctors.”

“A few hours later, we received another report that the deceased’s 30-year-old girlfriend was found lying in a pool of blood in her house at Molebe ward in Machaneng. We rushed there and found her dead, with several stab wounds all over her body. We took her to the hospital and she was also certified dead upon arrival. It was clear that a sharp object had been used to stab her, but we could not locate any tool on the crime scene,” she said.  The man is said to originate from Sefhare, while his girlfriend hailed from Machaneng. Both of them were unemployed and had no children together.

The police said they could not divulge any further information, as investigations are still ongoing.“Investigations are still ongoing to establish the cause of the man’s actions since he did not leave behind any suicide note. Both the deceased’s bodies are at the mortuary awaiting post mortem,” she said.Meanwhile, police are also investigating a case in which a 26-year-old man was found hanging from the rafters of his house in Sefhare village.  “The man, who hails from Makgonya ward in Sefhare, was found dead. We have since established that the deceased had gone to work as usual on Monday morning, and went to his house for lunch.  He was later found hanging from the rafters of the house,” she said. The station commander expressed great concern over the increase of passion killings and suicides in her policing area.
