This came less than a day after Karabo Sibanda scooped a gold medal in the boys’ 400m final. Sibanda was instrumental in helping his teammates Thabiso Sekgopi, Aobakwe Malau and Kabo Mphali cross the line first in the 4x100m relay.
The Nainjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist and his team won in a time of 41.94.
They proved too strong for Australia who took home silver ahead of Nigeria.
Botswana has two gold medals and more is expected from other athletes who are competing in the heats. Botswana sent 11 athletes to the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games to represent the country in boxing, athletics and swimming.
Though they won the gold in the 4x100m relay, Sekgopi and Malau missed out on a podium finish in the 200m boys event where South Africa’s Tlotliso Gift Leotela emerged victorious.
