More shocks as Gunners taste first defeat

The league action resumed on Sunday following the international break, with new comers Green Lovers continuing their free scoring mode as they beat Sankoyo Bush Bucks 4-3 in Serowe.

On Tuesday, Extension Gunners took the long trip to Orapa for a date with Orapa United looking to extend their unbeaten run. However, they came out of Itekeng Stadium battered and empty handed as Patrick Lenyeletse and Thabang Sesinyi’s brace helped Orapa United to a 3-1 win against the Peleng giants. Gunners’ goal came from defender, Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile who also scored in the last game against Gaborone United (GU).

Before a trip to Orapa, Gunners had not dropped a single point, having won their first four games since the season started. It was always going to be a tricky encounter for the log leaders especially since the Ostriches have not lost a home game this season. They have already played three times at Itekeng Stadium this season and won all the three games. The first home game was a 1-0 win over FC Satmos before they beat GU 2-1.

Gunners remained at the top before yesterday’s games in which Police XI, who at the time of going to press were sitting in second position, were scheduled to play against Gilport Lions. Mochudi Centre Chiefs were away to FC Satmos. Orapa United’s win against Gunners moved them to position four with 10 points.

In another game played on Tuesday, Nico United registered their first victory of the season, thrashing Jwaneng Galaxy 3-0 in Selebi-Phikwe. The win is expected to relieve pressure from both the players and coach, Wesley Mondo, who before the Tuesday game had only managed to collect a point. Christopher Musonda got a brace with the other goal coming from captain Richard Legwaila.

They have now moved into position 11 from 13. Galaxy lost to BDF XI with the same score line in their last game and have now dropped to position 12 with only four points. They have conceded the third highest number of goals in the league so far. BDF XI and BR Highlanders ended in a stalemate with Keeagile Kobe and Vincent Nzombe scoring for their sides, respectively.

Meanwhile, Ralesotla remains perched at the top of the goal scoring charts with nine goals. Tebogo Sembowa, who scored all the four goals when Galaxy hammered Green Lovers recently, failed to increase his tally on Tuesday against Nico United. Musonda’s brace on the other hand helped him take his goal tally to four.
