Reason to celebrate: Nico United registered their first win of the season with a 3- 0 thrashing of Jwaneng Galaxy

It was Nico’s first win of the season, having lost the first three games before they played to a draw against Orapa United in the last encounter. Mondo said the draw against the Ostriches boosted his players’ confidence and they are now ready to conquer.

He said even though the game was a bit tough, his players have shown great improvement in terms of ball possession. He said they have also increased their pace. “Their performance was impressive. I introduced fast players in the second half because I needed to increase the speed of the game and it worked,” he said.

Jwaneng Galaxy coach, Oris Radipotsane said his team lost the game because they were not able to utilise the chances they created. “We created chances but we were not able to convert,” he said.

He said despite the loss, his team’s performance was outstanding. “We just lost concentration in the dying minutes of the game,” he said.

The victory leaves Nico in position 10 with four points. Just five minutes into the game, Jwaneng Galaxy were already piling pressure on the home side but lacked a killer instinct upfront. Nico United came back from the break with more determination and Christopher Musonda put them in front in the 82nd minute.

His goal inspired Nico and they increased the pace going forward in search of another goal. Galaxy then made a double substitution, introducing Musa Ohilwe for Olebogeng Malebye while Goareng Bagale replaced Thabo Leinanyane.

Mondo on the other hand introduced Gift Moyo, Onkabetse Makgantai and Trinity Nko and Musonda got his brace with three minutes remaining. Richard Legwaila then put the final nail in Galaxy’s coffin in the last minute of the game.
