The police have said that they encounter a number of people who advance various reasons every evening to try and travel after the fall of the curfew. Dibete police station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku said they are concerned about people who continue to violate curfew times restrictions.

Ranku revealed that yesterday night only they charged nine people for violating the curfew by Dibete road block.

“I think this is deliberate because people usually claim that their cars had encountered mechanical faults, (or) they had travelled because another family member was sick ,to mention but a few excuses. When curfew restrictions time was 8pm they used to crowd the roadblock in numbers, but since the time was moved to 10pm they come with various reasons after 10pm,” Ranku explained.

He said they continue to charge people on daily basis for disobeying the curfew, fined them P500 as an admission of guilt and they will wait until 4am when the curfew is over.

“It appears as if we are being cruel to people, but the law is clear that no movement is allowed after 10pm,” Ranku emphasised.
