The case is scheduled for June 10, 2021. Motsewakhumo’s contract with the Premier League’s rookies (Flamingoes) was supposed to end in September this year.

The former Notwane spokesperson was reportedly sacked by the club last month after he was charged with insubordination by club chairperson, Tirelo Thebe. He then appealed his dismissal to the club president Sabelo Matikiti, but it was upheld on Monday this week. He then approached the labour office.

According to insiders Motsewakhumo questioned the club’s decision to reduce his salary. He allegedly felt that enough consultation was not done before a decision was taken to reduce his salary by 50%. Motsewakhumo is also said to have felt that the move to reduce his salary was not suitable since he worked from Monady to Friday.  The club stuck to its guns and a decision was later taken to dismiss Motsewakhumo. Sources have said that in April the club introduced salary cuts for players and some support staff in a bid to counter the effects of COVID-19. The salary situation at the club was expected to normalise once football activities have returned.  Motsewakhumo confirmed his dismissal but declined to comment further.

He would not confirm or deny that he has approached the labour office in a bid to fight his dismissal. “Apart from confirming that I have been sacked by the club, I find it less ideal to extensively discuss my dismissal from the club with the media or external stakeholders. Some of the things are purely confidential,” Motsewakhumo told Mmegi Sport.  Flamingoes’ chairperson, Thebe refused to comment on reports the club had sacked Motsewakhumo and has subsequently been taken to the labour office by the latter. “I will be violating the club’s policy by discussing disciplinary issues with the media,” Thebe said yesterday.

When Motsewakhumo was appointed last year on a one-year contract, the club said that he was the most suitable person to lead the transformation of the club. His contract was to be renewed depending on his performance. Motsewakhumo becomes the second high profile person to be sacked by Flamingoes since the club won promotion to the elite league.

Coach, Rapelang Tsatsilebe was relieved from his duties just months after helping the club to win promotion to the Premiership.
