BDP ready for Boswelatlou

Raphel garnered 76, while the other three contestants Sono Mekgwe, Goemeone Lekaukau and Moffat Mbaakanyi got 11, 18 and 49 votes respectively. The ward registered 730 votes in the 2014 elections.

Raphel is the former councillor for Boswelatlou ward. She was a councillor for 10 years between 2004 and 2014. She lost the 2014 general elections with only two votes against Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) candidate councillor Kabelo Sebako. The latter later quit his council seat due to work commitment. During the 2014 general elections, the UDC garnered 278 votes while BDP got 276.

“I believe I am the right candidate for this ward. People of Boswelatlou have promised to vote me back to represent them. I have worked hard in ensuring that some roads in our ward like Nkomo street get streetlights,” Raphel said.

She said the people of that ward approached her after the former councillor whom they voted for dumped them. She said she had worked well with Boswelatlou residents especially with the Ward Development Committee. “We have formed a committee with some residents of this ward to help destitutes. Our constituency needs women and children’s shelter and we have already found a sponsor to assist in building it. The other project that is in place is building a police satellite station in order to fight crime in our ward,” she said.

She said the BDP is already ahead with campaigns in the area and she is confident that they will win back the ward from UDC. “The numbers will never lie in politics. What advantages us is that UDC has not yet started its campaigns and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) which is supporting UDC does not have much influence or supporters in the area,” she said.
