Matlhare had paid a courtesy call to the northeast region last Friday and held an appreciation ceremony with MoESD senior management, schools head teachers and deputy head teachers to personally thank them for the high achievements in the 2014 results.

He awarded schools trophies and certificates in a ceremony that was held at the Francistown College of Education campus.

The region scooped position one countrywide last year in the Primary School Leaving Examinations, (PSLE) gaining 84.6 percent followed by south east district with 83.2 percent.

“I could not ignore your efforts and dedication towards bringing good results every year and had to come and say I thank you for your good work,” said Matlhare.

He said despite challenges facing the ministry, the region keeps on producing good results calling on teachers not to despair, but help in building an educated nation.

“The ministry is aware of all the challenges facing your welfare and working environment and promises that if funds are available all of your needs will be addressed,” said Matlhare.

He said that their sacrifice and dedication towards their work as the school leadership, motivates teachers to do more during lessons and produce good results every year and it’s something that cannot be ignored.

Matlhare called on schools to protect what they have obtained and strive for better results this year saying they cannot afford to go down.

He said the nation can secure a better future for the children if the educators invest more on the high standard of education.

“Even if we differ or have differences I call on you to put the innocent souls’ education first,” pleaded Matlhare.
