On the same day, Khama commissioned the Masama wellfields whose water sources are expected to augment supply  from the North-South Water Carrier (NSC).

In what was evidently a direct response to the march by the UDC, when Khama announced that government would  overhaul the troublesome 26km stretch of the NSC, he said the government would be responding to the nightmare of bursting pipes in villages by maintaining and replacing the leaking pipes.

The costs of the project were however not immediately availed.

Other top priority water projects announced by the President include:

* construction of an additional pump station on NSC 1 to double its capacity to supply water to Greater Gaborone to 110million cubic litres (mcl)/day; * extension of NSC 2 from Palapye to Mmamashia to further relieve stress on the existing pipeline and the * expansion of the Masama well fields to draw another 25 Ml/day of water to augment the NSC 1 supply.

Khama highlighted that expenditure on NSC 2 and the associated projects needed to ultimately secure the Greater Gaborone water supply now and into the future, is expected to exceed P12 billion, which will however require government to cut expenditure elsewhere.
