Pending matter: Notwane will start their First Division campaign despite an unresolved case

The matter is before the Botswana Football Association (BFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC). The club filed an urgent application in the High Court in an attempt to prevent their play-off match against FC Satmos from going ahead in June. The court dismissed the matter and the game proceeded at the Serowe Sports Complex which saw Notwane lose 4-6 and demoted to the First Division.

First Division South chairperson, Sam Keitireng said they could not wait for the matter to be resolved as it has dragged on for too long. He said when BFA structures make decisions, they must consider implications to other clubs. Keitireng said it is expensive for teams to train without playing games. He said Notwane has been included in the fixtures and it is expected to play this weekend.  The Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego told Mmegi Sport yesterday that there is nothing stopping Notwane from playing.

He said the BFA had taken action by referring the matter to the DC. He said there are many cases, which are always brought before the D.C, but the concerned clubs are never stopped from playing.

“There is a body that deals with cases being the DC and the BFA does not want to interfere in their processes. It is up to them to handle and dispose off the Notwane matter. The last time when the matter was postponed, the committee requested both parties to submit written submissions,” Sebego said.

He said after the submission of arguments, a judgment would be made. He pointed out the public must learn to respect judicial bodies and let them do their job without any pressure. Sebego said the DC is a very active committee that deals with matters accordingly.

Meanwhile, Notwane will start its First Division League campaign against Rolling Boys at the SSG ground on Saturday afternoon.
