Nico cries foul over stadium lights

The floodlights are not fully functional, meaning that night games have to be moved to day kick-off.
Nico United spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng said this resulted in his team losing revenue from gate takings.
He said most of their supporters were not able to attend mid-week games that kicked off in the afternoon because of work commitments.
“We rely mostly on gate takings,” he said. “Last week our game was poorly attended because of re-scheduling which is caused by lights that are not functioning.” He said the council should ensure that the stadium lights are functioning, or it should communicate the problem on time.
“The council should always ensure that the stadium is in good state, if not then they should communicate to the teams well on time not at the last minute,” he said.
Acting town clerk for technical services, Mogorosi Kokoro said the council was aware of the issue of electricity at the stadium. He said it was unfortunate they noticed the problem only recently.
Kokoro said the council was working round the clock to replace the electricity ballast.
“Each light has six ballasts, the council is working around the clock to replace them because we have noticed there are not lighting to the maximum as expected,” he said.
He said the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council started the project to improve the change rooms and the fitting rooms.
He said the council has since employed people to clean the rooms, but the clubs should always ensure that they always pick up litter such as bandages and bottles from change rooms.
