Since the arrival of coach Pio Paul during the off-season, Gunners are revitalised and GU were the latest recipients of the ruthless Lobatse giants’ juggernaut.

Gunners have notched four wins on the trot to send their fans into dreamland early on in the season.

However, Paul would be cautious, as it is early days in the title race. The Gunners fans have endured trophy-less seasons with a sparkling period in the 1990s now becoming distant memory.

Paul has brought back the belief after watching his side emerge from their sternest test unscathed at the weekend.

It was a bruising encounter, which saw GU play parts of the match with 10 men after Ghanaian recruit, Godwin Osei Bonus was red carded while Namibian striker, Benson Shilongo suffered what appeared a serious knock.

Shilongo had to be ferried to the hospital and his absence would be a huge blow to GU as he has been the front line’s leading light.

Veterans, Moemedi ‘Jomo’ Moatlhaping and Amos ‘Shoes’ Godirwang were on target to take the Peleng boys to 12 points, two ahead of second- placed Police XI.

The defeat meant GU’s poor start to the season persists after they lost 2-1 to Orapa United in their previous encounter. Elsewhere, giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Township Rollers lost ground on the early pacesetters after dropping points for a second successive week.

Chiefs failed to bounce back from the past weekend’s disappointing loss to Sankoyo Bush Bucks after Gilport Lions held them to a goalless draw.

Chiefs are sixth with seven points while Rollers stay at position five after a 1-1 draw against BR Highlanders.

At the bottom, there is early gloom for four winless teams, Nico United, Motlakase Power Dynamos, Gilport Lions and FC Satmos who all have one point each.

The league takes a break this weekend to pave way for international matches with the Zebras in action against Burkina Faso in Francistown.
