Digging Tswana Roots

Setswana in the very roots of mankind (Part 3)

Yet, because ancient names tended to reveal much, we saw Setswana shed good light even on this. In the course of that exercise we pitted the biblical version of events against much older sources like the Atra-Hasis and found the latter to be much more detailed and credible.

Science, of course, treats both these sources as mere myth. But in this miniseries we showed that anthropology and archaeology are not quite as clean as they would like to appear. They ignore (and hope very few read about) anachronistic finds such as anatomically-modern man in undisturbed rock strata millions of years old, and sophisticated items like intricate aluminium gear-rails embedded in coal 300 million years old – what Michael Cremo calls “Forbidden Archaeology”.

Logically, the “forbidders” – whose task, quite clearly, is to make it near-impossible for such finds to enter the mainstream – can only be descendants of these same old ancient human beings who awed us as “gods” in bygone times, and whose manipulative hand is now rationalised in “Abrahamic” religions as the hand of “God Himself”. They were an elite which, in ancient times, we called the Illui (“Shining Ones”: “Eloi” in Hebrew, “Ba-Loi” in Setswana). They are elite even today – now loosely called “the Illuminati”. Indeed, mo-illu (mollo in Setswana) means “fire” – an illuminator – and these were beings who saw themselves as Enlightened Ones; a race fated to rule over the rest of mankind.

Indeed, in Part 2 we saw how Enki (Prometheus in Greek mythology) was later vilified as a “snake” whose “original lie” was to tell mankind that they were, intrinsically, the equal of “gods”. In Genesis he was cast out of Eden (E-di-Ene: “Place of the Gods” – En means “Lord” or “god”, thus EN.KI means “Lord of Earth”); in Greek mythology he was cast out of Mount Olympus. This, actually, is the real background to the Garden of Eden tale we unfolded in Part 1 and 2.

Thus far, we have recounted mankind’s real story up to the time when the Earth was tilted at its biggest angle of 24.4 degrees in its rhythmic tilting (41 000-year obliquity cycle). Right now our tilt is 23.5 degrees. But even at this gentler angle, the fact that the sun’s rays have to travel tens of thousands of kilometres more to reach the poles than the equator accounts for the significant difference in temperature – so what more when the inclination is even greater? This, I believe, is the main factor that precipitated the onset of the Ice Age. Conditions became harsh and food scarce.

This is the time, the Book of Enoch reveals, when the “angels”, the Igigi (“giants”: ngingi in Nguni – “those whose footsteps go gi!gi! [i.e. make the ground shake]”), began to demand shares in the meagre harvests of mankind. We thus called them bo-matsie (locusts) – yet another enduring name. When food became scarcer as harvests failed, these tsie-badimo (locust-gods) “sinned against the earth” and began to eat mankind himself, thus earning a terrible reputation of being man-eating. (To find out more about the Igigi, please refer to my previous miniseries Inside the true story of the Nefilim.)

Meantime, Enlil (Ene-le-Illu: Lord of the Illu), who the Atra-Hasis reveals as having been against the idea of creating a hybrid of “god” and primitive hominid (most likely Cro-Magnon man) in the first place, was not only disgusted by giants’ (angels’) mingling their seed with the daughters of this Adam; the Adamites themselves were so many that “he could not sleep because of their noise”. So, as the Earth inched ever closer to 24.4 degrees and the ice cap was growing, all signs were that catastrophe was looming. So, Enlil could bide his time. At this angle, and mainly because Earth is slightly flattened at the poles, the weight of the polar ice cap exerts tremendous forces on Earth’s tectonic plates and may cause the crustal layer to slide over the inner molten layer – like the cooler outer “skin” of milk gliding over the hotter liquid below – thus triggering gigantic tsunamis. Per the Atra-Hasis, well before this happened Enlil called up a council of gods and swore them to secrecy. No-one was to forewarn mankind of the impending cataclysm.

But quite apart from her obliquity (tilt), Earth has a circular wobbling motion that is so slow it makes the fixed stars overhead appear to take 25 920 years to complete a circuit. Twelve constellations (groups of stars) take turns of 2160 years each (12 x 2160 = 25 920) to appear behind the rising sun every spring equinox, in their “Precession of the Equinoxes”. These twelve constellations are what we now call the Zodiac. Disaster struck in 10 983 BC when the Virgo constellation was still the reigning in “the Age of the Virgin”. Massive tsunamis swept well into the interior of lands and water covered almost everywhere – the Great Flood noted in Genesis7 and almost all the world’s legends. The Egyptians called it zepi-tepi and scholars think it means “the First Time”. Setswana, however, reveals that it meant “the waters (tepe is “watery”) that left nothing [behind]” (sepe means “nothing”).

The Illui were well prepared for it. They blasted off to space in their me-sha (“fiery ones”: sha-im (shems) in Hebrew) – their space-rockets. They had built sanctuaries for animals, but left mankind to perish. Per the Precession of the Equinoxes, Virgo ended in 10 800 BC – soon after the Flood – and Leo, the Age of the Lion, emerged. It was thus in Leo that everything had to begin afresh:  a “First Time” indeed. In Setswana lore, “Leo” became Loê – a metathesis of the name. It was an astrological age, not a person, but we evidently forgot. Yet Setswana obliquely attests that Leo was indeed a Tau (Greek letter “T”); a dead-end junction from which few emerged. Next week, in the final part of our miniseries, we examine what took place during and after the Flood.
