The councillors expressed their concerns after a briefing in the council chambers by the District Commissioner (DC) Cordeliah Mpape on the progress made by the forum so far.

Mpape said that the FIF has not been handed over to the new mayor by former mayor James Kgalajwe.

She also said that the directorship of Moiplek, a company established by the city a year ago, still bears the name of the previous mayor Kgalajwe, instead of the current one, Sylvia Muzila.  She added that an audit into the activities of the forum, in order to accurately and transparently capture the performance of the forum activities, is yet to be handed over to the current mayor.

The DC was not elaborate as to when the audit would be handed over and this drew angry responses from the civic leaders. “Those tasked with delivering the audit should do so as soon as possible,” nominated councillor Zazambi Tuelo demanded.

“The fact that the audit report has not been handed over on time shows lack of seriousness on the part of those assigned to run the forum.”

He added that delays in handing over the audit report creates the impression that forum funds were being misused. Another nominated councillor Peter Ngoma warned, “If those tasked with implementing the vision do not change tact, then the city will remain undeveloped for years”.

Kgalajwe who is now a nominated councillor said that the Town Clerk and the DC are the ones who are supposed to perform the official hand over by virtue of their positions as government employees.

Town clerk Lebuile Israel added that the committee assigned to run the forum would meet to discuss when it would issue a detailed audit report.

The DC added that the process of changing directors usually takes time as it goes through various processes. For this reason she pleaded with councillors to remain patient.
