Who should get the chop at Rollers?
| Friday May 8, 2009 00:00
Anthony Matengu
His move to Township Rollers was a major shock because of the man he was supposed to replace, Lesego 'Chokri' Moeng. Rollers had said Moeng was ageing and cannot help them in their quest for silverware, only to hire Matengu, another football ancestor. In an all honesty, since arriving at Mapalastina, there is nothing to write home about the former Mogoditshane Fighters' goalkeeper. His errors have cost the club dearly this season. He has cost Rollers victory in matches the team could have easily won. Verdict: He should go.
Kabelo Dambe.
The national Under-20 goalkeeper has shown that he has potential in the games he has featured in. At times like in the second round encounter against Police XI, he was let down by the porous defence. He needs time and guidance to realise his potential. Rollers' faithful can be assured of a top-class goalkeeper for years to come. Verdict: He stays.
Goitseone 'Shakes' Morake
This season, Shakes has been more in the background and had to watch some of the games from the stands or on TV. But if it was not for his work commitments, Morake would be the first choice goalkeeper at Rollers. In the games he featured in last season, he commanded his area like a seasoned goalkeeper and left a lasting impression in the hearts of Rollers' supporters. Rollers need to do something and find the youngster a job which can allow him to train regularly.
Verdict: He stays.
Kgomari Mothuba
He has been committed to Rollers' cause since the day he arrived at the club. He might not be one of the most talented defenders ever to wear Rollers' colours but his commitment is second to none. This season, he has shown a lot of maturity. Verdict: Stay.
Boitumelo Mafoko
Rollers are lucky to have him. A very disciplined defensive midfielder who has played a crucial part in the Rollers' line-up this season. During his lay-off early in the season, Rollers were exposed at the back and lacked a leader. In his new role in the middle of the pack, he has performed with distinction. Mapalastina will be unlucky to lose him. Verdict: Stay.
Amos 'Shoes' Godirwang
Shoes has been fantastic for Mapalastina and is one of the contenders for the be MOBILE Premier League player of the season. He has been played in different positions by coach Gumbo but carried his duties whole-heartedly. The other plus for Shoes is that he is a disciplined player and commands a lot of respect from fans. Verdict: Stay
Timothy Phiri
He has been a disappointment so far this season since arriving from Boteti Young Fighters. His errors have at times made Rollers suffer. As an expatriate, he should have done better. Verdict: Release him.
Jomo Mgadla
Why Rollers recruited him remains a nightmare. He has not featured in most of Rollers' games and when he did, he was far from convincing. He deserves to go and try his luck elsewhere because Mapalastina are a pressure club. Maybe another season in the First Division or at rookies Motlakase, would do for Mgadla. Verdict: Release him.
Edwin Moalosi
He is the most talented youngster in Rollers' line-up. At the beginning of this season, he was on fire. Since the arrival of Gumbo, Moalosi started most games from the bench but managed to change the complexion of the game when he came in as a substitute. It will be interesting to see whether Rollers retain him. Notwane is said to be interested in him. Verdict: Stay
Lawrence Majawa
When he was hired by Rollers in January, he was said to be the best thing ever to come to Mapalastina in recent times, but the Malawian midfielder has failed to live up to expectations. He has spent more time on the stands than in the field of play. Verdict: Release.
Aubrey Kebonnetse
To be honest, Rollers have to release him to another side to get experience. He has proved at the national Under-20 side that he has potential as a striker but he has not been given a fair chance at Rollers.
Verdict: Release.
Thapelo Balepi
There is no doubt about his talent and he has not disappointed in the games he has played in. Knowing what he is capable of, Balepi will have to pick up his performances next season if he wants to help Rollers win silverware. He is a true match-winner. Verdict: Stay.
Onalethata Tshekiso
He has played for Rollers with all his heart this season and scored some beautiful goals along the way. But Tshekiso will have to improve some aspects of his game if he is to become a complete striker. He has missed a lot of chances this season because of making wrong decisions inside the box. A well disciplined player who has a bright future. Verdict: Stay
Monageng Thaele
A talented left-footed player who has never disappointed whenever called to do duty for the club. He will surely play an important role come next season. Unfortunately, he has been relegated to the bench in recent games but that does not mean he is not a good player. Verdict: Stay
Kaone Molefe
Though he is a student in South Africa, Rollers can be advised to keep him in their books because he is a future star. In the few games he has featured in this season, he showed why Rollers signed him. Verdict: Stay.
Lesego Molemogi
He has been in and out of the Rollers' team but Molemogi is a talented player. He is one of the best passers of the ball in the Rollers' line-up. Most people forget that despite his age, Molemogi remains one of the longest serving players at Rollers. Notwane have shown interest in him in the past but surely he remains committed to Rollers. Verdict: Stay.
Oscar Ncenga
With due respect to the towering defender, he still has a lot to do to become a complete player. He has cracked under pressure and maybe a move to another club at the end of the season would do him good. If Rollers does not want to sell him, they should loan him out. Verdict: Release him.
Joel Mogorosi
To be honest, the Rollers' captain has been a disappointment this season. As a leader, when the going gets tough, he should lead by example but he has failed to do so.
Mogorosi has to know when to use his speed to beat an opponent or make a cross into the box for his teammates to bury. Rollers can still hold onto him but he will have to stand up and be counted next season. Verdict: Stay.
Terrence Mandaza
Initially, Mandaza was linked to a move to Notwane but Rollers came from nowhere to sign him. Though many people might say that he has not justified why he was signed, there is no doubt that Terry is talented. While he has missed a couple of chances this season, he has also scored some crucial goals. At the same time, Mandaza must guard against his off the field behaviour because it might disrupt his focus. He should lead Rollers' charge for top honours next season.
Verdict: Stay.
Edwin Olerile
He has been fantastic since coming back from an injury which nearly brought his season to an end early. A well disciplined player who is hardly brought to book by referees. He has given Rollers options on the left and they must hang onto him. Verdict: Stay.
Tebogo Mothusi
A talented midfielder who was brought in from the relegated TASC at the start of the season. Unfortunately for Panapana, he suffered a career-threatening injury before he could wear the Blues' colours. There is no doubt that Rollers' supporters are itching to see him in action. He has just resumed training and should be fit for next season or even Coca-Cola Cup campaign. Verdict: Stay.
Thebe Maiketso
A speedy winger who without doubt has a bright future. But he has spend more time on the bench and lost focus. The sooner he gets his focus back the better. Verdict: Stay.
Bernard Semakwezi
Since moving to Rollers from BDF XI, Semakwezi has failed to make the grade. He has missed good scoring opportunities and cost his team dearly. He has been in and out of the Rollers' team and deserves to be released. Maybe a change of environment will do him good. Gaborone United (GU) were said to be interested in him at some stage but they are unlikely to go for him come the end of season. Verdict: Release
Leatile Mponang
He was brought in to solve Rollers' scoring problems but he has failed miserably. He has not played like a striker. He does not deserve to be fighting for a place in the Rollers' line-up. It is best he moves elsewhere especially that Rollers have good strikers. Verdict: Release
Owen Molato
Featured in the Coca-Cola Cup for Rollers last season and disappeared with the arrival of coach Gumbo. There is no doubt that he is a capable defender and why he has not played remains a mystery. A move to another team would do him good. Verdict: Release.
Bokamoso 'Scara' Digwere
He has a great left foot. But he has no place in the Rollers' team when the likes of Olerile and Thaele are around. He is still young and can learn elsewhere. Rollers is a pressure team and for youngsters like Scara, this is not good, especially when he is not meeting expectations. Verdict: Release.
Mohamed Chawila
When he was signed from TAFIC, a lot was expected from the multi-talented Somali. But he was hobbled by injuries at the start of the season and he has not produced the performance he is well known of. He can still add value to Mapalastina come next season if given a chance. Verdict: Stay.
