Boxers produce thrilling night of knockouts

Six out of nearly 20 fights on Saturday produced technical knockouts. The upset of the day was when Oarabile Mothibedi of DTCB club had the better of renowned Otukile Mohammed, knocking him out in the first round of their 52kg fight.

Mohammed of BMC won a gold medal at last year’s All Africa Youth Games. Another boxer who impressed on Saturday was Francistown’s Boifang Kenaope in the 64kg category.

Just like what Mike Tyson used to do to his opponents, Kenaope sent Beenyane of Thebephatshwa to the canvas for the full count in just slightly over a minute.

Earlier, Beenyane had struggled to settle into the fight after being floored thrice and within seconds, Kenaope delivered a killer blow that had Beenyane sprawled to the ground.

SSKB’s Robert Motswakae, who fought in the 60kg category, knocked out Francistown’s Olefile Lukas in the third round.

GVBC’s Calvin Modikwa also knocked out Phemelo Mpafe of BMC in the 60kg category while Ogomoditse Seleka of EMG also produced a knock out against Onalethata Ndawana of Francistown in the 81kg category.

In the 49kg category Ogopoleng Botshelong of Prisons also proved too powerful for Tebogo Renguie of Francistown, defeating the latter 3-0. Kutlwano Ogaketse was unlucky to lose 2-1 against BMC’s George Molwanta in a closely contested battle in the 56kg category.

SSKB’s Maatla Mosime whitewashed Camm Manewe of Francistown 3-0 while Maun club’s Mompati Kabanjera will count himself lucky after edging his opponent Shawn Maruping of UB 2-1 in the 56kg category in what was one of the closely contested fights of the day.

Gillian Ditshwene of Prisons also had a very impressive night beating a hapless Tumelo Basupi of UB 3-0 in the 60kg category.

Still in the 60kg category Francistown’s Bokamoso Molaodi and Godisang Kebinamore of Thebephatshwa also had an easy night defeating their respective opponents, Mompoloki Thipe of Gantsi and Basha Motlhane of Prisons 3-0.

Another boxer who won, but had to struggle was Kagiso Koti of EMG who defeated Francistown’s Travolta Senne 2-1. Gantsi’s Tshepho Stoffel also had to sweat in order to defeat a resolute Ontlafetse Phane 2-1 in the 64kg category.

In the 75kg category, UB’s Montshosi Moitoi defeated Prisons’ Atang Mosinki 2-1 while Francistown’s Botshelo Bobby whitewashed Chriswell Jongwe of BMC.
