The clash had initially been scheduled for the new Lobatse Stadium, but after the Francistown facility was opened there was a change of plan.

Francistown mayor, Sylvia Muzila confirmed the new match venue at a full council meeting yesterday.

She requested the Francistown community to attend the game in large numbers.

A delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), FIFA and Botswana Football Association (BFA) was in Francistown over the weekend to inspect the new stadium.

BFA president, Tebogo Sebego revealed that every stadium has to be accredited by the FIFA and CAF officials before it can be used.

Sebego said the condition of the stadium was evaluated to ensure its suitability.

He said the stadium has been cleared to host CAF games. It will be the first time that the national team plays a competitive match in the northern part of the country. The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Thapelo Olopeng said the stadium would ease the pressure of hosting games at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

Meanwhile, the Debswana First Division North league that was due to start on September 5, has been postponed.

“The league will now start on September 12. We have decided to switch the games in order to accommodate the national team,” league spokesperson Rapula Gaothobogwe told Mmegi Sport.

“Nothing has changed with regards to the change of fixtures and the official launch, which will be in Kasane,” he added.
