The  ICT fair was  also supported by  the host University,  and BOTASH.

Making a presentation at the awards ceremony, Consumer Economist from Letshego, Nelson Letshwenyo,  emphasized the importance of managing money. He said that money ought to be managed well because it was hard to get. 

Letshwenyo said even  professionals needed lessons in financial literacy as failure to do so  would see them continuing to mismanage their resources.

He said that a working life was a time that one needed to learn the skills to make a greater future. Money is an important aspect that is needed in life but without knowing how to manage it is a problem. He encouraged teachers to be a greater example to children by managing their salaries well.

The consumer economist urged people not to be uncomfortable in front of cash. He stated that when people got money, they only thought of how to spend it.

He dded: “Investment skills are lacking in most of  the people even professionals. But those who work around children must be exemplary in handling their relationship with money. This is a great challenge because there are few professionals teaching people money management skills. It doesn’t help to be  regarded educated yet always broke.”

He however said that people must at least save a minimum of 10 percent from their salaries or allowances. It is only money that is kept that can grow. He urged people to teach their children money management skills.

Letshego Marketing Manager, Dimakatso Polokelo, said they are sponsoring children because they want to contribute to development of the country.

She said that they necessitate supporting the children so that they could also contribute to the economy of the country when they grow up. 

“In order for us to develop this country, we need to help from the grass-roots  because the younger generations are the ones who will develop the country in future,” she said. “One of our core interest as a company is people development and stakeholder engagement. So we continuously assist our stakeholders especially in the education sector.”

Further, she explained that after every fair they go back and assess the progress of the fair. She stated that they don’t just want to give and take relationship. Rather she said they crave growth of the ICT  fair, in terms of turn up and quality of exhibitions by the pupils.

Meanwhile, Polokelo encouraged other companies to join them in supporting government financial inclusion agenda.

Twenty-six schools participated in the fair. They included primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools and they competed in eight categories.

Social media award was scooped by Boipelego Junior Secondary School in Serowe and Swaneng Hill School. The system development awards went to Palapye JSS and Letlhakane Senior. Kediretswe Primary school, Shangano JSS and Letlhakane senior won the graphics award. Multimedia awards went to Palapye Junior and Lotsane Senior.

Shangano JSS and Swaneng Hill School won web design award while the practicals were won by Morwalela primary, Semane Junior and Lotsane Senior. As for the quiz, Morwalela Primary, Mopipi Junior and Swaneng Hill School were the best.

Palapye primary schools dominated the primary schools awards led by Morwalela which scooped four awards. Meanwhile, Botswana Schools ICT Association chairperson Kobamelo Mogampane applauded the competitors for participating.

He said that next year the fair will be national, thus including the whole of schools across Botswana.  BIUST Choir and poet  Mbatsi Jowa entertained the crowd.
