The reigning Mr Zimbabwe beat competition from 13 other competitors to win the cash prize of P5 000 and supplements worth P5 000. The competition was divided into two categories of junior men of under-23 and the seniors.

The Gaborone Classics started with the youngsters battling it out in front of judges. Some of the junior men were making a debut on stage and they stood in an array of poses in an effort to impress the judges. The competition was getting tougher and the judges cut down the contestants to the top 6.

From there, the top 6 contestants had to convince the judges by making a display of poses over a musical background. In the end, Mogomotsi Kgabo walked away with the title followed by Letumile Radisowa. Dimpho Reetsang took third position. Each of the top three received certificates, medals and supplements.

Then the competition got even more intense with the seniors making their way into the stage. Kgabo returned on stage to take on his seniors. The top bodybuilders Chienderamwano, Gontse Sechele and Isaac Sugar Sugar were impressive from the beginning and were a cut above the rest. The trio ensured that the judges got a view of every angle of their jaw-dropping bodies.

They made it to the top three and it was Chienderamwano who walked away with the title. Sechele took position two while the shortest man of them all Sugar Sugar came third.

In an interview with Monitor Sport, the Botswana-based bodybuilder, Chienderamwano said he had been on diet since May no wonder he managed to impress on stage.

“The contestants I competed with are not the kind of people you go into the stage and say you are going to beat them,” he said. “They were tough.”

The junior category champion, Kgabo, said he was happy with the hosts and the judges for a well-organised competition.

Kgabo added: “I am happy with the hard work that I put in. I am looking to come back next year. I still have another year as a junior so I wanted to see where I fall in the seniors.”

He said his aim is to improve his senior position and move on to the top three.
