BDP conducts membership audit

This comes after the party found out that the numbers they got from the 2014 general elections is not reflective of what they obtained on the ground.

The BDP secretary general Botsalo Ntuane admitted that their database is corrupted and pretty unreliable.

“For instance going into general elections we had approximately 700,000 entries but we got 302,000 votes. Clearly, the database is not reflective of what obtains on the ground.   “That is why we are embarking on a new registration process complete with new membership cards,” said Ntuane.

He said they are currently piloting the exercise in selected constituencies before a nationwide rollout.

“This exercise will also serve as a membership audit and hopefully at conclusion, it will give us a more accurate picture of our numerical status,” he said.

However Ntuane said they would be clear on timeline after the piloting phase.

“While the blame lies mainly with democrats, some candidates, during Bulela Ditswe, in their desperation registered unknown opposition supporters who then voted for their parties in the general elections,” said Ntuane.

He said some opposition parties registered with them in order to vote in their primary elections for a weak candidate who they would then not vote for in the general elections.
