Markets: Send out your writing!

Here are a few markets for you to send your writing to! A writer writes and a writer submits if they ever want to be published.
1. 2016 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award
The winner of this short story contest wins £30,000. You must have some sort of publishing history in the UK (meaning your work should have been published there). They want stories up to 6,000 words, unpublished. The writers can be from anywhere in the world and there is no entrance fee. The deadline is Thursday 24 September, 2015. 2. Literary agents looking for new clients
a. Sheri Bestor at Willow Word Literary Agency
She is looking for children’s fiction and nonfiction. Query by email only to sheri@willowwords.agency. For picture books and early readers, query with the complete manuscript in the body of the email. For nonfiction and middle grade/young adult, query with the first 10 pages in the body of the email. Be sure to include your contact information.
b. DongWon Song at Howard Morhaim Literary Agency
DongWon Song is looking for science fiction and fantasy books for adult and teen readers. He is also interested in nonfiction, especially food and science writing and manuscripts about pop culture. Email your query with three sample chapters (for fiction) or the full proposal (for nonfiction) to dongwon@morhaimliterary.com.
For either one of these agents, you might want to google their agency and check out the kinds of books that they represent to see if yours fits.
3. Contrary literary journal
Contrary is looking for submissions of poetry, fiction, and commentary for the Autumn 2015 issue. Send fiction, under 1,500 words or poetry (submit up to three poems). They also accept commentary, often anecdotal, poetic, or rhythmical in form. They now accept submissions from everywhere in the world. Submissions are due September 1, 2015. 4. True stories from those affected by cancer for anthology- How to Help
How to Help is putting together an anthology of nonfiction stories from current or past cancer patients. The word count should be under 3,000 words. Payment is $150 (USD) after publication, per story, and a copy of the book. Publication is scheduled for 2016. Deadline for submissions is 31 September 2015. From their website: “We are looking for creative non-fiction essays telling well-crafted, heartfelt stories detailing how people have meaningfully aided you as a cancer patient, and what you have found most valuable in terms of support in your time of sickness. 5. Looking for Ebooks for Young Readers
MeeGenius is looking for books for children up to 8-years-old. They are the number one app for interactive children’s ebooks. Please be sure that you have included your manuscript as an attachment and not pasted in the body of the email. Submit only one story per email to publish@meegenius.com and enter the title of your story in the subject line. If you currently have a submission that is under review with their editorial team, please wait to submit additional stories until a decision regarding publication has been made (this takes approximately two weeks). Points to remember when submitting your writing:
Check out the market before hand. Read some of the work there to see if your work fits.
Follow the submission guidelines carefully.
Make sure cover letters are professional (i.e. no sms- language) Make sure you include your contact details. Good luck! Remember the worst that can happen is you get a rejection. I can assure you, no one has died from receiving a rejection – I am proof of that.
