Tshwaragano Hotel on fire

The hotel manager, Warrick Rencken said the fire started in the morning but luckily there were no customers around at the time.  “The fire started at around 8:45am and is suspected to have started in Room 5. At the time there were no clients in the hotel.

We have a total of 11 rooms and six of them were burnt down. I was not at the hotel when the fire started, but I found the members of the fire department on the scene. It took them about three hours to contain the fire,” he said.

Public relations officer at the Central District council, Oaitse Serite confirmed that they had received a fire report in the morning.  “On Tuesday morning, we received a report from the hotel manager that there was a fire at Tshwaragano Hotel. Our fire department arrived at the scene at 9:25 am. The fire allegedly started in Room 5 and spread from there.

“According to our sources, the fire spread through trees that are next to the rooms. The hotel is thatched and when it burnt the dry thatch produced sparks that could have also contributed to the spread of the fire,” he said.  Serite said they had managed to control the fire and investigations were underway to establish the cause of the fire.

“When we arrived on the scene, all the six rooms were already burnt down but we managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread. We are currently doing a report and our Fire Department, the Police and the Botswana Power Corporation will also do further investigations to establish the cause of the fire,” he said. Serite advised members of the public to call the Department of Fire as soon as a fire breaks out and refrain from going close to fire scenes as there might be explosives like gas, which might explode and cause injuries.
